CALTHORPE COMMUNITY GARDEN BENCH
A six-month project culminating in the production of a welded bench for the Calthorpe community. The design emerged from interviewing community members. Selected quotes from these became prompt cards for members to base drawings off during community sessions. The bench's design facilitates inter-generational interaction as the back beam allows for swinging and play, whilst the core structure allows for rest and conversation.
The bench in position within the sunken garden. Welded bent 25mm steel piping. 100x100x100cm.
The final, hand-embroidered bench sling seat; utilising design from the community session. Red thread on polycotton. 100x50cm.
